About Me

I’m LeAnn, and I’ve dedicated over three and a half decades of my life to nursing. It’s been my absolute passion since I first stepped into the world of healthcare as a nurse’s aide while still in high school. My journey has been marked by the care I’ve provided and the lives I’ve touched, specifically within the field of cardiology.

You’re going to find out about how my career took shape over the years. Though I started with a Bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation and Related Services, I was soon back in college pursuing an Associate’s degree in Nursing. This wasn’t just about career advancement; it was about following my calling.

I never aspired to be a nurse leader or manager because being at the bedside, directly caring for patients, is where I found my joy. I had several memorable mentors throughout my career. They were essential in guiding me to where I am today.

Returning to school was no easy feat, especially after 30 years. The transition from traditional textbooks to digital learning, like using online highlighters and mastering PowerPoint presentations, was a hill I had to climb. I found the tenacity to overcome my digital reservations and earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing when a new healthcare system role required it.

In my opinion, the online learning world could be quite challenging. Let me tell you, discussion boards were a whole different game. Posts littered with grammar issues made me appreciate the professors as I agonized over how to respond to the illiteracy on the discussion boards.

Ledger Dean Publishing: Embracing Creativity and Mentorship

Now, as I am nearing the adventurous threshold of retirement, it’s not the end of a chapter but the beginning of an entirely new book. That’s where Ledger Dean Publishing comes in. It’s not only a brand but a beacon for new beginnings, where storytelling and dreams take flight.

When I crossed paths with an incredibly talented young writer, it wasn’t by chance; it was a moment that redefined what I will dedicate my coming years to. Our bond over the love for dogs and sharing stories was instant, and the shared desire to bring those tales to life became our mission.

I’m fired up about championing this brilliant artist, whose imaginative stories deserve to be shared with the world. I see a part of my younger, aspiring self in her, and it’s my turn to be the mentor who can make a difference. It’s about nurturing and guiding her on her path just as I was supported during my nursing journey.

With Ledger Dean Publishing, I’m inviting you into an inspiring space where fresh voices can emerge and flourish. We’re not just publishing books; we’re crafting legacies, supporting dreams, and building a community that values the art of storytelling.

So, to all the kindred spirits with a passion for writing who stumble upon Ledger Dean Publishing, know that this is a place where you’re encouraged to share your own narrative. Let’s turn those vivid daydreams into printed realities. Choose to embark on this exciting literary adventure with us—you’re bound to find both a guide and a friend in me, LeAnn.

  1. Thank you, Leann. Your story is very similar to mine. I was a mother of 7 children and had not been in school for over 30 years. I went and got my degree in Physical Therapy and then found out that my calling was actually to be a Marriage and Family Therapist. I have been working as a therapist for 26 years and love what I do. One thing I have always wanted to do in my life however is to write a book or create an advice blog, helping others with relationship issues. Being the “Heart Whisperer” if you know what I mean. Thank you so much for sharing your story, I wish you the best.

    • Hello Eric,

Would you be the editor on my team?

You write with professionalism and warmth at the same time.  I felt as though I was reading the words of a very wise, old soul, who is not only professionally invested but also emotionally invested in nurturing our youth to prosper.  I thought of my grandparents teaching from their own experiences.

I certainly appreciate your encouragement and kind words.

      Thank you,

  10. Hi LeAnn, your story is a real inspiration and I have to admire you for returning to studying and completing your degree after so many years away from text books. The digital age is making the world of learning quite different from when I was at university forty years ago.

I love that you are now mentoring a young writer and starting this website. How important do you think it is to have a mentor when embarking on a writing journey? Will you be publishing your own stories, as well as those of the young writer?

I look forward to reading your stories.

    • Hello,

The digital age has definitely changed how people learn.  I see many benefits.  I also missed the camaraderie of fellow classmates.

Many of the mentors I had throughout my nursing career had a huge impact in my life.  Some of them taught work ethic.  Some of them stressed the importance of continuing education.  Others showed me how compassion and empathy as a nurse could dramatically affect the patient’s experience and final outcome.

Mentoring others helps one to stay sharp.  I often found, while mentoring student nurses, many tasks I did throughout my shift had become habit so I no longer thought about the “why” I did certain tasks.  I was never satisfied when mentors answered, “that’s how we’ve always done it”.

Even though I am not a professional writer, I believe I have skills to encourage the young writer and can offer feedback from my experiences.  I will be hiring a professional editor before publishing the first book.  I want to provide every opportunity for the writer to be successful!  I may consider publishing my own stories down the road, but first I want to be the wind beneath my writer’s wings.
